In Aikido, one is not taught violence instead one is taught to be in harmony with the opponent to be able to defeat. This might seem odd but it actually works. In studying Aikido, it is important to remember that along with building physical strength to be able to defeat your opponent the mental capacity should also be developed. Just like in any art, it takes a lot of practice and discipline to perfect the art of Aikido. I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it's more on how badly you really need it. I'd like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?

What motivates you? It's an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It's not like you can't have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that's it. Just try it piece by piece.

So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Aikido is one of the oldest form of martial arts. Founded by Morihei Ueshiba, aikido came about through the studies of many different kinds of traditional martial arts. In fact, is often perceived as a form of exercise or a dance because of some of its forms. It is also viewed by some quarters as some form of martial mesmerism.

Aikido is even confused with Daito Ryu Aikijutsu, it is different in its essence. Still, its founder attributed his creation of aikido to the way, his master Sokaku Takeda, grandmaster of Daito Ryu, opened his eyes to the nature of Budo.

What is aikido?

Despite its many perceived forms, aikido is a Budo or martial arts. It is the refinement of the techniques that are being taught in traditional martial arts and is combined with a philosophy that calls on for the power of the spirit. In its essence, it is a blending of the body and the mind.

Its philosophy is basically derived from the belief that deceptions and trickery or brute force will not make us defeat our opponents. Instead, concentration that involves the spirit will be enough to strengthen us.

Aikido is also used as a way to discover our true paths so that we can develop our individuality. It also teaches its practitioners to unify their body and their mind so that they will become in harmony with the �universe� and with nature. Their power and their strength will come from this balance and harmony.

The word �universe� in aikido is not some obscure concept that one cannot achieve. It is actually quite concrete and is even within the grasp of the person. In aikido, �universe� can be achieved through actual experiences and everyday life.

Aikido�s movements and techniques are circular. When a circle is created in aikido, the person is said to be protected from a collision from an opposing force. A firm center, however, is needed to create this circle. An example of a firm circle is a spinning top that turns at fast speed. Without a firm center, the speed of movement will only create imbalance. The stillness of the spinning top while in speeding motion is what is called sumikiri in Aikido language. This is achieved only by what Aikido founder calls �total clarity of mind and body.� However, this is not so easily achieved. It takes a long time of study and practice in order to find this intense concentration and centeredness.

Training is important in aikido as well as concentration because while it may be easy to create a centered being when inside a martial arts gym, the same cannot be said of situations and circumstances outside. It will not be easy to keep one�s composure when faced with extraordinary circumstances. This is actually one of the goals of Aikido training. It aims to teach its practitioners to maintain their composure and their centeredness even in panic situations such as danger and calamities.

One method taught in aikido is to breathe with what is called the seika tanden point. This is the part of the body that can be found two inches below the navel. Controlled breathing is one key to being one with the universe and to center oneself with nature. When a person learns to do this, he or she will feel extraordinary calmness that they can use in the practice of aikido.

often than the positive list.

week to come up with new stimulants, both bad and good. Use
your imagination.

The solution to many problems is to try a mix of remedies

Weight Loss and Back Pain



In society, we are surrounded by small, medium, and large bone structures. The structure of the muscles and bones play a part in how the body is framed as it matures. Weight factors are considered by bone structure also. For instance, a medium-bone woman at the height of 5�2 can weigh up to 135 without being overweight. A larger bone structured woman can weigh a few pounds more without tipping the scale.

Obesity however has taking over our country do to changes in feasting patterns, and the meals we eat. The damning changes include the FDA, which permits harmful additive food products, which the additives endorse, cravings. We see obesity in our future at higher scales than ever in our history. Why do you think 12 and 14 years old children are running around with large buttocks and breast? Ask FDA about the additives. The problem is these children take for granted the benefits, since down the road those buttocks and chest will balance with midriffs, thighs, and so on.

Now you can take those cans of beans off the shelves, sit around, and do nothing about your weight, however if you do not loose weight it can lead to serious back pain. Back pain is THE worst condition of all pain we can experience, yet the condition spreads out from a wide array of causes.

Back pain emerges from a chain of reactions, starting with the skeleton bones and moving to the skeletal muscles. Yoga Videos Aren't All Equal at Getting Out the Kinks.



Yoga used to be the kind of thing someone's eccentric aunt did - a woman with a braid wrapped around her head who entertained the children by putting her foot behind her neck.

I tried screening three different videos on a day when my neck and shoulder muscles were tighter than last year's jeans. I had knots the size of Rhode Island that had been there for weeks.

Jane Fonda's Yoga Exercise (A.Vision) relaxed them. Kathy Smith's New Yoga (BodyVision) warmed them up. Three hours later, after falling under the reassuring southern spell of actress Dixie Carter's Unworkout (MCA Universal), they melted away.

Here's how it went:

An all-natural Jane Fonda appeared on a set that looks like a craggy moonscape, wearing plain red leotards and tights, and sporting a French braid down to her hips. (It's a hair extension, but what do we care.)

She demonstrated the classical Sun Salutation, a choreographed yoga routine traditionally used to greet the day, her huge Ted Turner diamond gleaming in the spotlight.

Then she asked us to join her in a warm-up, several rounds of the Sun Salutation, and a relaxation and breath awareness segment, 60 minutes all told.

Yoga is slow, I decided, slow enough that I have time to examine the webs between my toes and the lint on the carpet while holding each pose. While nearly standing on my head, I meditated on the most profound of Jane's statements: When in doubt, breathe.

After the relaxation segment, my thoughts switched to her final message: I am relaxed, and I will carry this feeling with me.

She said this hour would help me stretch, tone and energize my body. At that moment I felt lethargic, noodled, ready for lunch. The knots are still there.

Kathy Smith also appeared in a red leotard and tights and urged me to do the workout on an empty stomach, preferably just before dinner. She worked with Rod Stryker, yoga instructor of the stars, to update the ancient disciplines and merge them into a workout for fitness fans.

Kathy stood on a raised pylon as she led a more athletic version of the Sun Salutation, a half dozen other poses and a meditation, 60 minutes total.

The great thing about yoga, I'm learning, is the great names attached to each exercise: the downward dog, the cobra, the plank.

Subliminal Tapes?

There is no scientific evidence that subliminal tapes work. My guess is that in most cases it's a total fiasco. In particular areas involving SKILL.

Look for the list of affirmations included on the tape. I saw one for guitar. The problem I have is that affirmations like "I am a great guitar player. I play perfectly. Guitar playing is powerful, dynamic and expressive. You play with great control, tone and resonance. You hear with perfect pitch." Etc. I think this just creates DELUSION. I don't think you can improve SKILL with affirmations at the conscious or subconscious level.

Attitude? States of mind? I think you can affect that with affirmations but NOT skill.

On the other hand, perhaps there could be PLACEBO affect benefit in areas of attitude like relaxation, confidence, energy, taking action, putting in more time, and motivation.

But, before you shell out money, go to the library. I know of a library that had that stuff.

Or, maybe go find a MLM person and borrow one of their tapes.

Certainly don't shell out over 10 bucks, in total. Don't buy a bunch of them.

I see there are CUSTOM designed subliminal tapes. That way you could stuff in every affirmation for every problem! Way too expensive for my blood.

One company even sell subliminal tape makers. I think about $90.


Beware of when they say "studies show" but don't show you which ones. I can see if you aren't selling something or there's no question something works or is obvious, but when you are asking for a person's cash you ought to do some homework.


To be clear, I do not think they work. I see no independent, scientific evidence. I sure WISH they did!

Do affirmations work?

An affirmation is a statement of an attribute or state of mind you want to possess. You state it as if true now.

But, I don't think it works when it comes to skills. But, I think it can work in terms of creating "states of mind" (such as confidence, energy, calmness, etc.).

I do NOT think that if you say "I am a good writer" it will make you a better writer. I think you could become delusional, actually THINKING you are good when you aren't! It's better to be in touch with reality.

Nor, do I believe that vague statements such as "I am attracting money to me" will make you richer.

Sure, they say so in books. That's because it seems a lot easier way to get rich than actually put forth effort!

Focus on SPECIFICS.

I have read many personal development books that mentioned "affirmations". The vast majority of the affirmations I believe are of no value.

Off the top, I would say just stick to the affirmations related to creating the following states of mind:

- Energy/enthusiasm/motivated. This is probably the most important one for the pursuit of success in business, etc. Things like smarts, luck you can't increase with affirmations.

- Calmness/relaxed

- Confidence (but not arrogant and delusional!)

- Dwelling on positives and not rehasing negatives.

- Breaking habits and instilling new ones.

- Self control.

- Sleeping well.

- Enjoyment. Tricking yourself into believing you enjoy working long hours and given tasks.
