It amazes me how powerful a good night's sleep is. Yet, say I get that great sleep. Then, the next night I don't get a good one. The past night's sleep is ancient history. It's an ongoing thing. But, it's perishable, expended quickly.
People put all this time and effort in chasing magic pills, philosophies, and the like. They pay little heed to the value of sleep. They should instead do diligent research and find out how to ensure high quantity and quality rest.

Is Global Warming Real?
Real, perhaps, but the question is: Is it MAN (and woman!) made or naturally occuring? Is it cyclical? Are we causing it (isn't that a bit arrogant to think we can alter nature?). Can we change nature?
If we caused it, can we fix it, too? So, we are so powerful we can affect nature, a nature that has existed for billions of years. And, we also can change it back to "okay".
Is it wise to spend resources of time, thinking, money, etc. in a futile effort and squander the opportunity to address real problems we can affect, and to a much greater degree? We have limited resources, we have to prioritize.
People are starving while self-proclaimed enviromentalists (a name that may imply that the rest of us are anti-environment) burn gas in leer jets, get carried about in limos and eat lobster... spending tons of mulah - money that can be better directed.
Btw, did those holier than thous in Copenhangen ever hear of VIDEO CONFERENCING? Would do the earth some good. Hypocrites! Practice what you preach OR, better yet, stop preaching and start doing something and stop being part of the problem!
One good act is more valuable than 1 million hypocritical soundbites!
I don't need to believe in global warming to be pro-environment. Believing it won't make me more environmental than I ALREADY am. In fact, it might make me be LESS environmental because, if the HYPE is legit, we can't change things so let's party it up!
Certain groups think they need to lie, propagandize and sensationalize to make a point. But, ultimately, it becomes a case of "the boy who cried wolf" and they lose credibility.
Be skeptical and demand facts.
We don't want to be hyped into things.
Simply observe good practices regardless. Walk when you can. Don't leave the light on. Same old stuff we knew before this global warming stuff hit the fan. We can't do anything more than we are already doing, anyway!

When someone insults you, the inclination is to strike back with fury. Or, get all flustered and just walk away.
In fact, the best thing to do is take a deep breath and wait a second. The power of the pause. See, there is no hurry. Yet, we think we have to be quick. We don't.
So, the first thing to do is take a deep breath and collect your thoughts.
Then, remember, there is no race to get the rebuttal in.

Conquer Fears
This morning I was awaken by a woman.
She was rattling on, "Someone is parked in the driveway! I've never seen the car before."
I was very tired. Why, it was 6 am and I had gone to bed late.
As such, I was in a tough mood. Without any weapons in hand, I thundered out the door. Half way there I noticed a vehicle. The windows were very tinted so I hurried back in the house for a flashlight.
As I approached the vehicle I was amazed at my bravado. I hadn't entertained the risk factor. Another emotion was firmly in control: Anger at being woken and the sense that my property had been violated.
It was pitch black and I could barely make out the car.
I yelled out, "What in the --- are you doing in my DRIVEWAY! You damn well woke me up!"
There was not a shred of fear in me. I was being fueled by other feelings that muscled out any sense of fear.
There was no answer.
I aimed the light in through the driver's seat window. Then I walked around the vehicle dousing it with light. But, I couldn't see a thing, they car's tinting was too great.
I then went in and grabbed some iron and brought out my 2 medium sized black dogs.
I hid the weapon nearby. I did not want to instigate anything, it was there as a backup.
Still no action from the car.
While I was pretty tough, I took no provocative actions such as attempting to open the door. It was enough to let them know I was there and was no easy prey.
Of course, I did not know if anyone was actually in the car, but I assumed as such.
I wrote down the license plate, with the aid of my flashlight. I felt like a cop.
I opted to go in the house and call the police.
Moments later I heard a door open. And then a slam. Then I saw the car start up and drive off down the road.
Now, I am not sure if they were in the car of had left it there and then went off somewhere else and returned.
Think of the fears you have. Then think about the actual risk I took. Yet somehow I managed to suppress any inkling of fear. I had it in me. Now, if I could handle such a situation without a morsel of fear, why would I fear other things?
Now, whether it was wise for me to do as I did is another matter. I had no clue who was in my car, it could have been a mass murderer on the run.
The point is that I was able to suppress any fear because I fixated on the objective and the sense that I was in the right. In addition, I was too tired to think "rationally".
So, each of us can in fact overcome our fear of doing whatever it is we are thinking of doing (say, starting a business), we just need to somehow conjure up the right mindset.
In addition, we have to put the fear into perspective. We are taking NO physical risk when we attempt something. In fact, we are taking no psychological risk - if we simply choose to NOT dwell on any negative outcome.
Yet... many of us have no fear in the face of real danger yet would get all nervous at the thought of taking some risk.
Perspective.
Then again, perhaps the creeps come back. Having thought about the incident, I now am significantly more apprehensive.
So, if something happens and we don't meet again... please just remember to put your fears into perspective when you take a risk that involves no true danger to life and limb.

Depression In The U.S.A.
Roughly 10% of the American populace suffers from depression. Of course, few seek out treatment.
One treatment is to seek out a cognitive behavior therapist. Another is the medicinal route.
None of these are cheap, but this is a case where opening up the wallet is justifiable. It's a strange thing how people will spend big on things of minor importance yet be reluctant to seek out professional help, due to cost.
Sound mental health is utterly important... much more than status, excess materialism, etc.

Many think, "Gee, nothing has happened before so nothing will!" Remember, that is what every victim used to think! Not that you will become a victim of a crime if you think this. It's simply that it has no bearing. It's not like criminals are psychic and go after those who think they are invincible. It's largely CHANCE, location and opportunity. And those are not a function of your sense of odds.
A good self defense strategy is to have a weapon is every room. No, not a M16 or a machette, but anything that can function as a weapon, should you be confronted by an intruder.
Many things will suffice. That chair over there? The lamp Grandma Sue gifted you? The coffee stained cup on your table? That can be hurled at a thug, to at least send the message that you are no picnic. That can send them a packin!
Just look around your house. Sure, you love that chair! It's one of a kind. But, it could save your life, one day, and that supercedes it's intended value.
I have a baseball bat under my bed. And, in the living room, another one. In the kitchen is a steel bar. In the garage a multitude of potential weapons. Etc.
No. I'm not advocating that you adopt a survivalist mentality and live in fear. Though, if that's your bag...
I'm simply saying that self defense requires proactive planning and getting in touch with reality (i.e. just because it hasn't happened tells us nothing). As hard as it is for humans to understand, extrapolating the recent into infinity is ill-advised. The crook heeds not your predictions.

Eliminating The Danger That Stands On Your Door Step
I once had a young woman living next to me. She told me that the prior night someone had banged on her door, late at night. So, she felt COMPELLED to open the door! Fortunately, the guy was just odd, rather than dangerous, and just looking for a prior resident. But, it could have turned out bad.
The moral of the short story is: Install a peep-hole in your door and use it. Never feel embarassed about not opening the door.
If you can't make out who it is, don't open the door.
If you hear a knock at your door late at night, the first thing to do is to take a deep breath.
Then grab a weapon. Some will say, "Don't do that, they'll use it against you!"
That's insane. Someone who would venture into someone's house late at night, knowing full well someone is there (car is a big hint and your actions), has evil intent to begin with.
Then, grab your cell phone and carry it with you.
Always have backup batteries! And backup of that. Be sure they are in your nightstand by your bed and have batteries in other places, as well.
I will give you many other tips, but I don't want to overwhelm you. That will serve little purpose.
If the person hovers around, call 911. Always be one step ahead of trouble.

Time Management and Your Core Values
Values are a little mentioned term. However, they inately guide us, know it or not. An example of a value is freedom. Of course, to some degree or another we all aspire to be free, but it is the weight we assign to it versus other values. It is how seriously we take. Some adore freedom so much they would risk dying to maintain it. Give me liberty or give me death. Be free or die.
Through trial, error, and quiet contemplation we learn what we learn to prioritize our values. We figure out what we want to do with our life.
As we age, time becomes an ever more valuable entity. With each passing year, the preciousness of 1 year actually goes up. When one is 20 and facing, say, 60 more years of living, 1 year is 1/60th of his remaining time. At 50, however, 1 year is 1/30th.
Morever, the QUALITY of life is key. Can one assign as much value to older years? Only to the extent of remaining TIME but not the actually quality. I mean if you were to stay at 30 or so, with bountiless energy and zeal, youthful looks... even if you would live the same quantity of years, life would be much better.
However, despite all the hype about medical advancements, old age is still no picnic.
Of course, we can't do much about that, so let's come back to down to reality.
It behooves one to spend time wisely. This encompasses what activities you engage in, what work you enter, who you interact with and how, etc.

Overlooking Acid Reflux Disease in Children
An 11-year-old boy in Boston developed a Gastro esophageal reflux Disease (GERD). It is only a short dry cough symptom. His pediatrician thought it was only allergy, however, when his son was tested, result showed that his son had no allergy. The Relationship Between Breastfeeding and Colic

Watching the food and making sure the infant burps are just two ways to handle a colic baby. The mother can also carry the child onto the shoulders or in a swaying motion. Some even sing a lullaby making the infant go back to sleep.
The parents can also put a CD player near the crib that will play nursery rhymes. This will serve as background so the baby will not wake up from the sounds coming from outside the room or the house.

4. Slowly inhale, bend your knees, and if your fingertips aren't outside your feet on the floor, place them there. Slide your right foot back as far as you can go, with the right knee an inch or so off the floor, (a lunge position). Now look up as high as possible, arching your back.
5. Before exhaling again, slide your left foot back until it is beside the right one, and with your weight supported on your palms and toes, straighten both legs so that your body forms a flat plane. Make sure your stomach is pulled in.
6. Slowly exhale, bend both knees to the floor, bend with your hips in the air, lower your chest and forehead to the floor.
7. Now inhale slowly and look up, bending your head back, then raising it, followed by your upper chest, then lower chest. Your lower body - from the navel down - should be on the floor, and your elbows should be slightly bent. Hold for three to five seconds.
8. Exhale slowly and raise your hips until your feet and palms are flat on the floor and your arms and legs are straight in an inverted V position.
9. Inhale slowly and bring your right foot forward as in position 4. The foot should be flat on the floor between your fingertips. The left leg should be almost straight behind you, with its knee slightly off the floor. Raise your head, look up, and arch your back.
10. Slowly exhale and bring your left foot forward next to your right one. Straighten your legs and stand, trying to keep your fingertips on the floor, and try to touch your head to your knees as in position 3.
11. Slowly inhale, raise your arms up and stretch back as in position 2. Don't forget to tighten your buttocks. Hold for three seconds.
12. Slowly exhale, lowering your arms to your sides. Relax. Repeat the series.
